Douglas W. Alexander is recognized as one of the premier advocates specializing in practice before the Supreme Court of Texas. He has authored or co-authored numerous CLE papers related to practice before the Court, including The Ultimate Petition for Review, Strategies for Responding to a Petition for Review, Drafting a Brief on the Merits in the Supreme Court of Texas, Crafting an Effective Amicus Brief to the Supreme Court of Texas, and Supreme Court of Texas Internal Operating Procedures.  His co-authored chapter on The Petition for Review appears in the Texas Supreme Court Practice Manual, published by the State Bar of Texas.

Doug currently serves as Chair of the Appellate Section Council of the State Bar of Texas. He previously served on the Civil Appellate Law Examination Commission of the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and as an Adjunct Professor of Appellate Advocacy at the University of Texas School of Law. Doug has been selected as one of Texas’s “Super Lawyers” for appeals every year since the inception of Texas Monthly’s “Super Lawyer” publication, and is currently identified by that publication as one of the Top 50 Lawyers in the Central and West Texas area, and one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Texas.  He has also been listed in The Best Lawyers in America in appellate law.

A cum laude graduate from the University of Houston Law Center in 1980, Doug served as an Associate Editor of the Houston Law Review and was selected to the National Order of Barristers. Following graduation, he clerked for the Hon. John R. Brown, former Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Before establishing Alexander Dubose Jones & Townsend, he organized and led the Appellate Practice Group at Brown McCarroll, managed a solo civil appellate practice for a time, and most recently headed the group of appellate practitioners at Scott, Douglass & McConnico.

Doug Alexander is licensed to practice law before all Texas state courts, as well as the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and is board certified in civil appellate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
