Douglas W. Alexander is recognized as one of the premier advocates specializing in practice before the Supreme Court of Texas. He has co-authored the preeminent guide to petition for review practice, The Ultimate Petition for Review, which was prepared with input from the Supreme Court Justices.
In 1997, Doug was selected to co-chair the State Bar committee assigned to author the Guide to the New Texas Rules of Appellate Procedure. He is currently Vice-Chair of the Appellate Section of the State Bar of Texas. He has served on the Civil Appellate Law Examination Commission of the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and as an Adjunct Professor of Appellate Advocacy at the University of Texas School of Law. He has been selected by Texas Monthly as one of Texas’s “Super Lawyers” for appeals, and was named one of the Top 50 Lawyers in the Central and West Texas area.
Doug has served both as chair of the planning committee for the University of Texas School of Law Conference on State and Federal Appeals, and as co-course director for the State Bar of Texas Advanced Civil Trial Course. He has authored numerousarticles and is a well-regarded speaker in the area of appellate law, with particular emphasis on practice before the Supreme Court of Texas. A cum laude graduate from the University of Houston Law Center in 1980, Doug served as an Associate Editor of the Houston Law Review and was selected into the National Order of Barristers. Following graduation, he clerked for the Hon. John R. Brown, former Chief Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Before establishing Alexander Dubose Jones & Townsend, he organized and led the Appellate Practice Group at Brown McCarroll, managed a solo civil appellate practice for a time, and most recently headed the group of appellate practitioners at Scott, Douglass & McConnico.
Doug Alexander is licensed to practice law before all Texas state courts, as well as the United States Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and is board certified in civil appellate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
