Kevin Dubose has been a recognized leader in the Texas Appellate bar since he shifted from a litigation practice to an appellate specialty in 1985.  Beginning as a solo practitioner, he then honed his craft while simultaneously working as the appellate specialist for a prominent personal injury firm and as the Director of Legal Research & Writing and the Director of Appellate Advocacy at the University of Houston Law Center.  Since the mid‑90s, he has been a partner in two high profile appellate boutiques.

When the Houston Bar Association started an Appellate Section in the early 90s, Kevin was the second person elected to chair that section.  Four years later, Kevin was elected chair of the State Bar of Texas Appellate Section.  His proudest accomplishment in that office was the conceptualization, initiation, and execution of a project that culminated in the Standards for Appellate Conduct B a landmark document that Kevin assisted in drafting.  When adopted and promulgated by the Texas Supreme Court and Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in 1999, this became the first set of ethical standards tailored to appellate practice adopted by any jurisdiction in the United States.

Kevin is a fellow of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, a by-invitation-only honorary organization of fewer than 300 appellate attorneys nationally.  He is listed in the 2007 edition of The Best Lawyers in America in Appellate Law. He repeatedly has been recognized in Texas Super Lawyers as a "Super Lawyer" in appellate law.  The last two years he has been recognized by Texas Super Lawyers as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Houston, and in 2007 he was named by Texas Super Lawyers as one of the Top 100 Lawyers in Texas.

Kevin was selected to author the chapter on Oral Argument in the Texas Appellate Practice Manual (2d ed.), and to write the chapter on “Writing a Persuasive Supreme Court Brief” in the Texas Supreme Court Practice Manual.  He is a frequent CLE speaker and author on briefwriting, oral argument, post-trial motions, and appellate ethics.

Kevin is a graduate of Rice University and the University of Texas School of Law.  He is double board-certified in civil appellate law and personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.  Kevin is licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Fourth, Fifth, and Seventh Circuits, Federal District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of Texas, and all Texas state courts.
