Kevin Dubose is a graduate of Rice University and the University of Texas School of Law. Kevin established a reputation as one of the top appellate lawyers in Texas while working simultaneously at a prominent litigation firm and serving as Director of Legal Research and Writing, and then as the Director of Appellate Advocacy at the University of Houston Law Center.
Kevin is double board-certified in civil appellate law and personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He was elected chair of the Appellate Practice & Advocacy Section of the State Bar of Texas in 1995–96 and chair of the Appellate Section of the Houston Bar Association in 1992–93. While chair of the State Bar Appellate Section he initiated, and then served on the committee that drafted the Standards for Appellate Conduct.
When these standards were adopted and promulgated by the Texas Supreme Court and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals in 1999, Texas became the first jurisdiction in the country to adopt standards for professionalism that were directly targeted for an appellate practice. Kevin also was selected to author the chapter on Oral Argument in the Texas Appellate Practice Manual (2d ed.). He is a frequent and highly rated CLE speaker on briefwriting, oral argument, post-trial motions, and appellate ethics.
In addition to his experience in complex commercial and personal injury cases, Kevin is recognized as one of the leading appellate lawyers in Texas for medical malpractice and nursing home cases. He has been chosen a "SuperLawyer" in appellate practice by Texas Monthly. Kevin is licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States Fourth, Fifth, and Seventh Circuits, Federal District Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of Texas, and all Texas state courts.
